About this project
The YouBridge project in Thailand consists of providing
intelligent and motivated but poor students with the technological
means to flourish and perform better at their school. The students
are supported by a permanent presence of our partner Fund Isaan, a
fund managed by the King Baudouin foundation. Laptops in this
project will be granted to technical school students, having
finished basic technical education. In order for them to continue
studying and achieve a degree, comparable to a master degree, these
students require access to the internet on a regular basis, for
most of them this is out of reach.
Students have been chosen from several technical courses, going
from accountant to car mechanics at two different technical
schools. If they finalize this additional two years education they
will have access to leading functions in regional industry. This
will not only help them as an individual but also help them support
their families and communities. Besides the computers, Fund Isaan
will follow up closely on their performance and will grant them
financial support to pay for their education when required.
Fund Isaan has been active since 2007 and has a wide variety of
activities in the Isaan region. Isaan is the poorest region in
Thailand. Approximately 75% of the population is officially
classified as poor.
Fund Isaan installs computer classes in rural schools (13
schools so far, approximately 20 computers per school, supporting
IT education for over 7.500 students and their communities).
Furthermore they send volunteers from all over the world to teach
English classes, their volunteers are active in more than seven
schools in the region. Finally we provide scholarships and laptops
to students (approx. 60 students so far). Recently, Fund Isaan
opened a permanent office in Prasat, Surin, this will allow us to
continue and expand our activities at an increased pace.
The local YouBrdige ambassador will be working closely together
with Fund Isaan & YouBridge. The ambassador gives regular
feedback to the YouBridge community. The ambassador will be the
face of the project and the school community he or she is
representing. We have opted to appoint two ambassadors, one for
Prasat Technical School and one for Sangkha Technical School.
Together with our Fund Isaan representative in the region, they
will be reporting on the activities he or she and his or her
colleagues, beneficiaries of this project are participating in.
This alone will give him or her a personal sense of responsibility
which is, under Thai culture, exceptional.
